Club Championship 2010
We had a good tournament this year, which resulted in two new club champions. Martyn Whiting beat Wayne Hooper in the finals of the men's event, and Vic Seymour beat Lisa Hobbs in the finals of the ladies' event. The most-improved player of the tournament was the unseeded 15 year old Tom Heneghan who managed to knock out two of the seeds before eventually falling to Wayne in the semifinals.

2010 Regatta
Many of you missed one of the comedy acts of the year - the barbecue manned by squashers at the 2010 Regatta. I started off the cooking and stuck to my usual method of arranging neat groups of uncooked, partially cooked and fully cooked burgers. I also stuck to my patented method of cooking squasages by putting a batch on parallel to each other and rotating each by 72° anticlockwise every 1'12" seconds. Then Marco Polo (our most talented and Scottish squash player) arrived and did unspeakable things to my carefully sorted rows and columns of burgers and sausages, and chaos and hilarity ensued. Marco was joined by Johnny Rambo, who looked capable of killing hundreds of customers with his heavily serrated spatula if they dared complain at the charcoal burgers.
Many thanks to all the volunteers - Lisa, Heneghans, Jimmy, Ben, Richard A, Martin F, Tessa, Maree, Vic, Ian, Clive & Jackie Hale.

In the plate, Ros Porter (+3) played against Craig Whiting (-4), and Craig won 15/5 17/15 15/13.

Bad Weather
The club might have restricted opening hours for the next few days due to the snow. The access lane is likely to be covered, and the slope at the Abbey Road end will be difficult for two-wheel-drive cars. There is some sand in the club car park in case of emergencies - carry a small shovel just in case! I'll put the latest information that I have, on the booking sheet.

Win for the Girls!
Wednesday 9th December was a big night for the womens team of Evesham Rowing Clubs Squash team. The team, consisting of Clare Heneghan the U19 County Champion, Victoria Seymour, Lisa Hobbs and Ros Porter (Captain) played David Lloyd away at Bromsrove in a league and cup game.
First to play were Lisa and Ros, who won their matches comfortably in three games, with some stunning drop shots and drives. With two games in the bag, it was up to Clare and Victoria to win the match to take them through. However, they faced tough competition and whilst winning their games was difficult they realised that maximising points would be crucial to taking the match. Victoria went down in three games, but picked up enough points on the way to give the team a good chance of victory. So, saving the best until last, Clare played Julie ………. she fought hard and her game involved many long rallies and some spectacular shots; however she lost her game 9-6, 9-5, 10-9. Clare battled brilliantly to win the points required to take Evesham to victory.

Clare Heneghan is Girls U19 County Champion
Clare won the U19 Girls competition in the Worcestershire Junior County Closed today. In the finals she outpowered her opponent, keeping her pinned to the back giving her an easy 3-0 victory. It's Clare's final year entering the junior county closed, so it's nice to go out with a win. Well done, Clare.

Club Championship 2009
Hello all. It’s that time of year again – Club Championships! Your squash committee have considered all the dates available with the winter league dates now issued and have come to the conclusion the only week available for the Championships is w/c Monday 28th September. We are going to run all the early rounds during the week, but as both ladies' and men's teams have away matches during the week, we are going to defer the semis and finals until the following Friday and Saturday.
The top eight players will be seeded and placed throughout the draw as normal. We will try and accommodate match changes where possible but this will depend on the level of entries we receive. Entry fee is £3 per head to cover the cost of the prizes. For those of you who are new to the club we run a Plate Competition alongside the main Championship for those players who are knocked out in the first round. Therefore, every player will get at least two matches.
So, could we see Gray retain his title, could one of the seeded players unseat him or could we be in for a wild card win?! As for the ladies' competition will youth triumph again over maturity ?!! Remember, you’ve got to be in it to win it!!!!! Entries will close at 8pm on Sunday 20th September. Email Lisa Hobbs if you wish to take part

Handicap Tournament 2009
As always this is proving to be a really exciting competion.
We've had 30 entries this year from new juniors to 1st team
players. In the first round, really good handicapping led to
seven 3-2s, four 3-1s and only two 3-0s. Please come along and support
- there should be some good matches.

Club Championship 2008
We had an excellent Club Champ this year, with probably the
biggest ever age difference between the champions. Gray
Wilson (65) showed the kind of form that we youngsters can only dream
of in his tense final against Martyn Whiting, and put his name back on
the board of honour after a gap of 18 years. Clare Heneghan
(16) showed that squash wasn't all about maturity and experience in her
match against Lisa Hobbs, and took the match to give her her first
championship title.

Next tournament - Handicap Tournament. Probably in February 2009.
Charity Match - Thursday 16th October at 19:30
Our charity tournament on Thursday went really well, despite
the shaky start due to the illness of two of the elite athletes - Lisa
was still nursing some strained ligaments in her foot, and I had picked
up a really bad case of man flu. Fortunately, two extra people turned
up on the night pleading to be allowed to participate (Barry Potter and
Sparky Mark), and although not quite of the required standard, we
allowed them to stand in.

Competition Nights
These are still going really well. There's some good squash, a chance to practise marking some sparky players, followed by a drink in the bar, and a bite to eat.
Thanks to Mark for organising it, and to Lisa for the catering.
